The American Human Rights Council (AHRC-USA) joins the United Nations and the rest of the world community in recognizing the International Day for the Remembrance of the Slave Trade and its Abolition that falls annually on August 23. It is a day to remember the slavery trade that lasted centuries and to celebrate its abolition.

As we honor this day, we must also remember that many people around the world are still suffering in human bondage. Human trafficking is the modern- day slave trade. It is a multi-billion dollar business that prays on the vulnerable.

“Slavery lasted hundreds of years and its legacies continue in discrimination and unequal outcomes,” said Imad Hamad, AHRC Executive Director. “It is our collective responsibility to eradicate the legacies of slavery and to end human trafficking,” continued Hamad.
