The American Human Rights Council (AHRC-USA) wishes all Muslims in America and across the globe a pleasant, safe, and blessed Eid Al Adha holiday. The four-day Eid starts on Friday, July 31, 2020.

Eid Al-Adha is the most important holiday in the Islamic calendar, it’s a very precious and special occasion. During these holidays we should not forget the plight of millions of people who are facing extraordinary hardships and who are in dire need for our humanitarian aid.

Eid Al-Aldha (Feast of the Sacrifice) is the second major Islamic holiday. It marks the end of the annual pilgrimage season (Hajj) to Mecca, Saudi Arabia. Due to the pandemic, this year’s pilgrimage was closed to international pilgrims. Usually over two million people from around the world perform this religious obligation every year. Hajj is one of the five pillars of the Islamic faith.

This year’s Eid falls amidst the covid-19 pandemic. America as well as the rest of the world are still facing this invisible enemy that has killed hundreds of thousands in the US. The Covid-19 crisis had forced many Islamic centers, mosques and institutions to cancel the Eid service. Other mosques have decided to hold these services for a limited number of worshippers.

AHRC reminds all who are celebrating the EID to adhere to the health instructions of avoiding crowds, social distancing, washing hands and wearing a mask in public.

“These are challenging times but that does not mean we cannot be optimistic and celebrate our holidays,” said Imad Hamad, AHRC Executive Director. “We urge everyone to celebrate responsibly and help limit and slow the spread of the disease,” concluded Hamad.
