The American Human Rights Council (AHRC-USA) welcomes the Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) decision to renew temporary protective status (TPS) for nationals of Yemen.
This renewal covers Yemenis who have not registered for TPS and those who have already received TPS status. AHRC urges those who have not registered for TPS to do so and those who are registered to renew their registration. Applicants should be mindful of registration deadlines. While TPS does not constitute permanent residency, it bestows important benefits on the TPS recipient such as work authorization and relief from removal.
“We welcome the extension of TPS for Yemen,” said Imad Hamad, AHRC Executive Director. “”However, this is a temporary relief that does not relieve the US and the rest of the international community from the moral obligation to put an end to the conflict in Yemen,” said Hamad.
