The American Human Rights council (AHRC-USA) is deeply concerned with the recent declaration of President Trump on Jerusalem. Breaking with American tradition, President Trump recognized Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and issued a directive for a planned move of the American embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.

Leaders around the world have condemned the decision. The one sided decision regarding the status of Jerusalem as the Israeli capital and moving the US Embassy to Jerusalem amidst regional conflicts. It is important for the US to act as an honest broker and help advance peace. The US decision as to Jerusalem does not help the cause of peace. In addition, President Trump linked the two-state solution to Israeli acceptance of it. President Trump has given the Israelis a veto over a Palestinian state, departing from American policy of support for the two-state solution.

“AHRC is deeply troubled by President Trump’s decision to recognize Israel as the capital of Israel and to move the American embassy to Jerusalem,” said Imad Hamad, AHRC Executive Director. “The move is a major setback for peace in the region,” added Hamad.
