[Michigan, April 3, 2024]:
The American Human Rights Council (AHRC-USA) condemns the Israeli war crimes committed against Al Shifa hospital and the international aid workers of World Central Kitchen. This has been the pattern and the trend of the Israeli military committing premeditated war crimes, ongoing for 180 days.
Israel has been committing a lengthy list of crimes in Gaza. These crimes are committed while the attention of the world is on Gaza. Israelis are committing these crimes knowing full well that the US is supporting them and will support them no matter what. This has encouraged Israel to commit the atrocities at Al Shifa and against Word Central Kitchen staff.
The world does not need the words of sympathy from the US. The world does not believe the claims of Israel that these atrocities are incidental to its war in Gaza. These atrocities are Israel’s war. And to have Israel be trusted to investigate itself is as meaningful as having Jeffrey Dahmer, a mass murderer, investigate himself. This is a travesty.
Israel is engaged in total war on the Palestinians. A scorched earth effort that is meant to devastate Gaza- the people and the place. The attacks on aid staff are not a mistake. The attacks on UNRWA and the World Central Kitchen are meant to stop all aid to the Palestinians. Starving the Palestinians is Israeli policy. Israel declared this policy to the whole world.
AHRC believes that without US support, Israel would not be able to commit these atrocities and escape accountability. Bombing hospitals and intentionally killing aid workers were unthinkable before the Gaza genocide.
Israel and the US have done great harm to the rule of law and the concept of human rights itself. The catastrophe is not limited to Gaza. It is a global catastrophe for the cause of international law and human rights.
“Every day we see new atrocities being committed by Israel,” said Imad Hamad, AHRC Executive Director. “We need a ceasefire and accountability for Israel,” added Hamad.
