[Michigan, April 4, 2024]:

The American Human Rights Council (AHRC-USA) extends its best wishes to all Muslims on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr holiday. The Eid holiday is expected to be on Wednesday, April 10, 2024.

EID al-Fitr marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan. It has been the mandate, and the tradition that religious and civic institutions plan and facilitate Eid festivities. The Eid is a special joyous occasion that people look forward to, especially children. It is a special time with family and friends.

Considering the ongoing Israeli genocidal war in Palestine and the ongoing bombardment of South Lebanon, and in solidarity with all the victims of Israeli aggression, including the recent victims from World Central Kitchen, AHRC calls upon all Muslim institutions as well as all civic organizations to refrain from holding any public festivities or celebrations of the Eid this year.

Arabs and Muslims are angered by the genocide in Palestine and the unlimited US support for this genocide. This anger is human, shared with all decent human beings around the world. Arab Christians in Bethlehem, birthplace of Jesus Christ, have cancelled public celebrations of religious holidays during the Christmas and Easter holidays due to the carnage in the Holy Land. The cancellation of Eid al-Fitr festivities has been preceded by these cancellations.

AHRC commends imams and institutions that have already announced their cancellation of the Eid celebrations and will be focusing on the tragedy of Gaza during the Eid sermons.

“Before considering the religion or the nationality, the victims of the Gaza genocide are most importantly fellow human beings,” said Imad Hamad, AHRC Executive Director. “We are angry, and we are sad, this is no time for public celebrations and festivities,” added Hamad.
