We are delighted to learn that “No Other Land,” a documentary on the injustice in Palestine, filmed over four years between 2019 and 2023, has won an Oscar award. This victory is a glimmer of hope for Palestinians amidst the ongoing genocidal war and ethnic cleansing in Gaza and the West Bank. The film was directed by Basel Adra, Rashel Szor, Hamadan Ball and Yuval Abraham.

The rule is that Hollywood makes and celebrates everything that advances the Israeli narrative. “No Other Land” is the exception.

The documentary shows the world a sliver of the injustice inflicted on the Palestinians. No fair- minded person can watch the documentary and not be moved by the ongoing injustice in Palestine and by the resilience of the Palestinians in the face of a brutal occupation.

The “No other Land” story recalls the American justice and peace activist Rachel Corrie. Ms. Corrie was an American non- violence activist who traveled to Palestine to defend Palestinian human rights. Israel brutally killed her. She was killed while nonviolently trying to block an Israeli army bulldozer from demolishing a Palestinian home in Rafah in 2003. There are many Americans who are aware of the injustice in Palestine and in different ways support the Palestinian cause.

AHRC joins all peace-loving people around the world in congratulating the filmmakers and commending the Oscar award judges for letting their humanity trump narrow self- interest and political expediency.

“When Americans listen to the Palestinian side and see with their own eyes the massive violations inflicted on the Palestinians by Israel, hearts and minds are changed,” said Imad Hamad, AHRC Executive Director. “There are industrial scale Israeli human rights violations in Palestine, underwritten by American taxpayers,” added Hamad. “Decent human beings, once they know the facts, don’t support injustice at home or abroad, and are moved to action when their own government is supporting the injustice,” concluded Hamad.
