[Michigan, June 15, 2026]
The American Human Rights Council (AHRC-USA) joins the international community and all peace-loving people in welcoming the reported framework agreement and memorandum of understanding reached between the United States and Iran to end hostilities and advance peace and stability in the region.
The full agreement, including its mechanisms and implementation details, is expected to be signed by both parties on Friday, June 19, 2026, in Geneva, with President Trump possibly in attendance, according to multiple media reports.
If finalized and implemented as anticipated, this agreement could help stabilize the region, restore the safe flow of international commerce through the Strait of Hormuz, and create momentum toward ending ongoing conflicts and violence across the region, especially ending the Israeli war against Lebanon.
The conflict with Iran has intensified global economic pressures, disrupted energy markets, and imposed significant hardships on consumers and businesses worldwide, including in the United States. Reducing tensions and preventing further escalation serve both regional and international interests.
AHRC cautiously welcomes this tentative framework and hopes it will be signed, implemented, and fully respected by all parties involved.
A major challenge remains the opposition of Prime Minister Netanyahu and his far-right coalition government, which has consistently resisted diplomatic efforts and pushed for open-ended military escalation. AHRC is concerned that attempts may be made to undermine, delay, or derail this emerging peace agreement.
AHRC calls on President Trump and his administration to remain committed to diplomacy and to place American national interests, regional stability, and global security above external political pressures. The United States should pursue an independent foreign policy guided by peace, security, and international law, rather than by powerful domestic lobbies.
AHRC also calls upon the United Nations to endorse, support, and help monitor the implementation of this anticipated agreement, while ensuring accountability and compliance by all parties.
AHRC hopes this U.S.-Iran understanding will mark the beginning of a broader effort to achieve a just, genuine, and lasting peace throughout the region, including Lebanon and Gaza. Lasting peace requires political courage, diplomacy, and a commitment to de-escalation rather than continued warfare.
“The people of the region have endured far too much violence, loss, and suffering,” said Imad Hamad, AHRC Executive Director. “It is time to give peace a genuine chance,” added Hamad.
