On Friday, October 13, 2017, the American Human Rights Council (AHRC-USA), hosted a US Citizenship Ceremony where 35 new Americans took the oath of citizenship and completed their American journey. The 35 new citizens represented 20 different countries of origin and showcased American diversity.
The ceremony was co-hosted by the City of Westland and the USCIS-DHS. The program included WXYZ-C7 News Anchor Andrea Isom as Mistress of ceremonies and a presentation of color by Westland Police Department. Artist and singer Yasmeen Suri sang the national anthem. Bill Wild, Mayor of Westland, Walla Najor, UCIS Officer, Dr. Opada Alzohaili, AHRC”s president of the board, David Gelios, Special Agent in Charge- FBI all addressed the new citizens. The ceremony’s guest speaker was well-known attorney Joumana Kayrouz. The new citizens heard a special video message from President Donald Trump.
AHRC-USA extends its appreciation for USCIS for granting it the honor of co-hosting this ceremony and to salutes all the USCIS staff who worked diligently to assure its success. AHRC extends its appreciation to Mayor Wild of the City of Westland and all his team members whose warm hospitality was a true reflection of what is best about America and about the welcoming city of Westland. This ceremony was the first of its kind held in the city of Westland.
In welcoming the new citizens, AHRC held a special and private breakfast- meet and greet before the beginning of the formal ceremony at 10:00 a.m. AHRC extends its special appreciation to all the guests, leaders and officials who attended the breakfast and joined the ceremony. AHRC thanks Captain Jays Fish & Chicken for providing the breakfast.
“Citizenship is precious” said Imad Hamad, AHRC Executive Director. “America remains a welcoming country that keeps its gates open to those who take the final step in their immigration journey by becoming citizens,” added Hamad. “The ceremony in Westland sends a welcoming message to the immigrants who call Michigan their home,” concluded Hamad.
