The American Human Rights Council (AHRC-USA) extends its deep condolences to the Wayne County Sheriff Department (WCSD), Sheriff Benny Napoleon, all deputies and to the family of WCSD Deputy Corporal Bryant Searcy. Mr. Searcy died from injuries sustained in the line of duty after he was attacked by an inmate on Sept. 2, 2020.

Corporal Bryant Searcy served the WCSD for 18 years. His tragic death is a reminder of the dangers that our law enforcement faces every day. This nation has 17,000 law enforcement agencies and hundreds of thousands of law enforcement officers. It is important, given the daily stream of bad news, to keep matters in perspective and remember that law enforcement overwhelmingly perform their duties honorably.

Law enforcement is a dangerous mission. And so many have given their lives protecting society. AHRC joins the citizens of Michigan in expressing deep sorrow for the loss of Corporal Bryant Searcy.
