[Michigan, February 24, 2023]:
The American Human Rights Council (AHRC-USA) is alarmed by the ongoing and increasing escalation of conflict in Israeli- occupied Palestinian territories.
While the world’s attention is focused on the earthquake’s tragedies in Turkey and Syria and the war in Ukraine, the most extreme Israeli government is escalating aggression against Palestinians. More Palestinians have been summarily killed or injured, and many others are being imprisoned, including children and women. This should be troubling and unacceptable for all of us.
The recent Israeli government decision as to settlements in the occupied West Bank is a violation of international law and a defiance of the whole world. It should not be tolerated. Israel is taking advantage of the international situation to advance its plans to steal more Palestinian land, kill more Palestinians, and demolish more Palestinian houses, among other violations.
AHRC calls upon the Biden administration to show more action, less rhetoric on Palestine. American values should not have an Israel exception. We call on the UN to take responsibility for protecting Palestinians from the Israeli killing machine. Peacekeepers are needed to protect the Palestinians. We urge the world community to spare no effort to avoid further suffering and bloodshed.
“We are deeply troubled by the rhetoric and actions of the Israeli government, a government of religious fanatics who believe that they are above the law and above all norms of decency,” said Imad Hamad, AHRC Executive Director. “It is time for the international community that created Israel to take ownership of the conflict and force a settlement that ensures the rights of Palestinians to have their own state with East Jerusalem as its capital,” added Hamad. “This senseless violence has to end,” concluded Hamad.
