The American Human Rights Council (AHRC-USA) joins the international community and all peace and justice loving people across the globe in condemning the Israeli plans to annex more Palestinian occupied land in the West Bank. This anticipated Israeli decision is a blatant violation of international law and of a long list of United Nations Resolutions related to Palestine.

In 1967 Israel occupied East Jerusalem, the West Bank and Gaza, completing the takeover of Mandatory Palestine. Over the decades, Palestinians have been denied basic rights while Jews-only settlements have been built on occupied Palestinian land. Over the years, a full picture of an Apartheid regime emerged clearly for everyone to see and condemn. Former President Carter wrote a book, Palestine: Peace or Apartheid, warning that Israel is moving toward a blatant Apartheid regime. That time in the future is today.

The whole world, and that included the US until the Trump administration, held the position that Israel is an occupying power of Palestinian lands and that there should be a two-state solution to the conflict. The ongoing takeover of land and the outright annexation make this vision unrealizable. Annexation makes Apartheid undeniable.

Annexation of occupied Palestinian land is a clear violation of international law. In reality it is a challenge to the whole world, excepting the Trump administration which appears to be rubber stamping the Netanyahu government’s decisions.

AHRC calls on the United Nations and the international community to exercise leadership and help stop this illegal annexation of the occupied Palestinian land as well as the Jordanian valley. Israel needs to be facing real sanctions for blatant violations of international law and its defiance of the international community. AHRC affirms that no peace can be achieved and no end to this conflict except through respect of international law and international resolutions.

“The overwhelming majority of the countries in the world want real peace in Historical Palestine, both for the Israelis and the Palestinians,” said Imad Hamad, AHRC Executive Director. “The annexation is not only a violation of Palestinian rights, it is an open challenge to the whole world that sees peace as attainable with two states, East Jerusalem as Palestine’s capital and justice to the refugees,” concluded Hamad.
