The American Human Rights Council (AHRC-USA) is deeply concerned with reports of abuse of civilians fleeing the war zone of Mosul, Iraq’s second biggest city.  AHRC calls upon the Iraqi government and all parties to the conflict in Iraq to respect the human rights of the hundreds of thousands of civilians of Mosul who have been trapped under the rule of ISIS for more than two years. The fleeing civilians have humanitarian needs that need to be met by the Iraqi government and the world community. Most importantly, military operations should respect the principle of proportionality.

“We are deeply troubled by reports of the dire humanitarian circumstances of civilians fleeing Mosul ” said Imad Hamad, AHRC Executive director. “Winning the peace is more important than winning the war. Inflaming sectarian grievances will not help bring peace and prosperity to Iraq,” said Hamad.
