The American Human Rights Council (AHRC-USA) is deeply alarmed by the conflict and escalating violence in Syria. These developments pose a threat to Syria’s security and future.

Since the fall of the Assad regime, Israel has engaged in a campaign of aggression and destabilization with the goal of the division of Syria into warring statelets. Israel exploited the collapse of the Assad regime to launch extensive military operations that severely weakened Syria’s military capabilities and defenses. Israel has acted with impunity, violating Syria’s sovereignty in defiance of international law.

In light of the recent unrest involving the Druze community, Israel has blatantly interfered under the guise of protection. However, its intentions are clear: Israel’s interests lie in fomenting violence and dividing Syria. Syrians are tired of years of war and its hardships. They want to have a country that is being rebuilt, not more years of conflict and hardship. Israel is fueling the conflict.

Undoubtedly, lifting U.S. sanctions on the Syrian people was a positive step toward stabilizing Syria. After years of hardship under imposed sanctions, Syrians deserved this reprieve. Yet, recent clashes jeopardize Syria’s ability to uphold law and order, safety, and security for all its citizens equally.

AHRC strongly urges the Syrian people to reject the trap of internal division and infighting. All Syrians must defend Syria against extremism, division, radicalization, and terrorism. Syria’s rich and diverse demographic makeup must be cherished and protected.

Several videos are circulating that document abuses. Each side pushes its narrative and claims to be the victim in the ongoing conflict. AHRC unequivocally condemns all forms of ethnic targeting, killing, and the humiliation of any Syrian under any circumstances, by any faction. There is no justification for violating the human rights of anyone.

AHRC calls on all Syrians to engage in open and constructive dialogue centered on the future of Syria and the well-being of all its communities.

AHRC urges the international community, especially the United States, and the United Nations, to act swiftly to halt all forms of Israeli aggression and intervention against Syria. The time has come to restore lasting peace and safeguard Syria as one nation for all Syrians.
