Demonstration against Expansion of Hazardous Waste Plant on Hamtramck and Detroit Border/ Saturday, June 29, 2019 at 10:00 AM.
DETROIT — State Reps. Isaac Robinson (D-Detroit), Tyrone Carter (D-Detroit), Cynthia A. Johnson (D-Detroit) and Wayne County Commissioner Jewel Ware will join local residents at a march organized by the Coalition to Oppose the Expansion of U.S. Ecology on Saturday, June 29, beginning at 10 a.m. at Dequindre Cut where Wilkins St. and Orleans St. Meet. The march will continue through Eastern Market. U.S. Ecology Hazardous Waste Treatment and Storage Facility announced plans for a large expansion of its Georgia Street location on the border of Detroit and Hamtramck. The permit for the expansion has been delayed due to the opposition of residents and community activists. This demonstration is a continuation of residents’ opposition to the expansion of the facility. Members of the public are encouraged to attend.
