[Michigan, November 27, 2024:
The American Human Rights Council (AHRC-USA) welcomes the recent ceasefire in Lebanon.
The Lebanese have been eager for an end to the Israeli war on them. This war has resulted in much destruction, deaths, and the displacement of hundreds of thousands of people. It lasted too long.
The Israeli war on Gaza, however, continues unabated. Israel’s war on Gaza continues because of US support. Gaza needs a ceasefire too. Not even charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity have managed to convince Netanyahu to end the ongoing genocide in Gaza. Only the US can end the genocide in Gaza.
AHRC hopes that the current ceasefire between Lebanon and Israel will be a permanent one for the sake of the millions of Lebanese who have been affected in different ways by the war. The hundreds of thousands of displaced Lebanese should be able to go back to their homes in the South safely.
AHRC hopes the current ceasefire with Lebanon will pave the way for a ceasefire in Gaza.
AHRC calls upon the Biden administration and President-elect Trump to continue their efforts towards a lasting peace in the region.
“The ceasefire in Lebanon took too long to bring about,” said Imad, AHRC Executive Director. “Only the US could bring a ceasefire in Lebanon and the same applies to Gaza too,” added Hamad. “We urge an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and real efforts for a lasting peace built on international law and UN resolutions,” concluded Hamad.
