[Michigan, March 7, 2024]:

The American Human Rights Council (AHRC-USA) joins the global community in celebrating International Women’s Day that falls on March 8 annually. The United Nations began celebrating International Women’s Day in 1977.

March is also Women’s History Month, a time not only to celebrate women’s successes and contributions to all humanity, but also a time to reflect on the challenges and hardships that women and girls are facing around the world.

On this special day, the world reaffirms that the struggle for the rights of women is at the core of the struggle for human rights worldwide. Today, the most difficult place on earth to be a woman is in Gaza. While the entire population of Gaza is experiencing one of the worst catastrophes in the world today, the hardships are especially acute as to women and girls.

The ongoing Israeli genocidal war has claimed so far over 32,000 lives, two thirds of them are women and children. Reports indicate that there are over 5,000 pregnant women who have been deprived of any form or shape of healthcare. Born to death has been the norm of Palestinian newborns.

As we observe Women’s Day, while the entire world and most Americans scream for a ceasefire in Gaza, the Biden administration continues to aid and abet Israel in its crime of genocide in Gaza. And women, a segment of the population that the Biden administration claims to champion, have been suffering immensely and disproportionately from the ongoing genocide.

“Women are the only minority that is a majority,” said Imad Hamad, AHRC Executive Director. “Despite much progress, they are far from even closely enjoying the rights that they are entitled to,” added Hamad. “And in our world today there is no place on earth where women are being denied the most basic of rights than in Gaza,” continued Hamad. “This reality shocks the conscience of the world, but President Biden remains unmoved,” concluded Hamad.
