[Michigan, February 2, 2023]:

The American Human Rights Council (AHRC-USA) joins the nation in celebrating Black History Month.

February is Black history month. It is a month to celebrate the achievements of black Americans. Black Americans have contributed to the wellbeing and progress of America in many ways. Most importantly, the black civil rights movements helped push the country to live up to its vision of itself as promised in the Declaration of Independence.

It is unfortunate that we celebrate the month while the country is still dealing with policing issues that disproportionately impact black Americans. The recent killing of Tyre Nichols by Memphis police is another painful reminder that this country still has much progress to make to live up to its ideals.

“Black American history is an opportunity to learn about the contributions of African Americans,” said Imad Hamad. “It is unfortunate that this country has not fully realized its vision of itself set in the Declaration of Independence,” added Hamad. “It is incumbent on all of us to make America’s promises its reality,” concluded Hamad.
