The American Human Rights Council (AHRC-USA) condemns the recent targeted killing of Mahmoud Al-Madhoun, known lovingly as Chef Mahmoud. Chef Almadhoun was one of the founders of the Gaza Soup Kitchen. Three aid relief workers of the World Central Kitchen and Mamdouh Qunaita of Al-Aqsa Channel journalist were also killed. This is not the first time that Israel has killed WCK workers. Many journalists have also been killed by Israel. This latest murder of Qunaita brings the total number of journalists killed by Israel to 191.

Due to Israeli criminality and escape from accountability, Gaza is the most dangerous place on earth to be a chef, humanitarian worker, or journalist.

These killings are grave violations of international law. Humanitarian aid workers, volunteers and journalists should not be targeted for death. The recent killings reaffirm what the world already knows. Starvation is Israeli policy in Gaza. And Israel does not want the world to know the extent of its crimes, therefore it kills journalists. Gaza remains closed for international journalists. It is the courageous local journalists that are documenting Israeli crimes and are targeted for death by the Israeli occupation army. These crimes have continued for too long. Not even charges by the International Criminal Court have been able to stop the mountain of Israeli war crimes and crimes against humanity.

The beloved Chef Mahmoud leaves behind seven children, the youngest is only two weeks old, and the oldest still in the hospital, who was shot in the eye and groin by an Israeli quadcopter drone just days ago.

AHRC calls upon the Biden administration and President-Elect Trump to work on an immediate ceasefire that results in a full release of the Palestinian hostages, detainees and prisoners held under various pretexts and trumped-up charges, held by Israel and the Israeli hostages held in Gaza.

AHRC sends its sincere condolences to the families of the victims of Israeli criminality.

“Rest in peace. Israel deliberately targeted my brother—they ensured he would not survive. His loss is a devastating reminder of the immense cruelty we face,” said Hani Almadhoun, UNRWA USA Sr. Director of Philanthropy. “May his memory live on as a testament to resilience, and may we find strength in his honor to continue the fight for justice,” added Almadhoun.

“Both President Biden and the President-Elect have on many occasions spoken of the need for a ceasefire,” said Imad Hamad, AHRC Executive Director. “The Biden team and the Trump transition team have been coordinating on foreign policy,” added Hamad. “It is time for both teams to coordinate on an immediate ceasefire in Gaza,” concluded Hamad.
