[Michigan, November 27, 2023]:

The American Human Rights Council (AHRC-USA) salutes the law enforcement for their swift and prompt action arresting Jason J. Eaton, the suspected shooter of the three Palestinian college students in Burlington, Vermont. Eaton lives in an apartment building in front of the shooting incident.

The victims are Mr. Hisham Awartani of Brown University; Mr. Kinnan Abdalhamid of Haverford University; and Mr. Tahseen Ahmed of Trinity University. The students were on their way to a family dinner. Two of the students were wearing Palestinian scarves “keffiyehs” at the time of the shooting.

Jason Eaton pleaded not guilty earlier during today’s court hearing (November 27). The judge ordered Eaton to be held without bond. All indications available thus far suggest that this is another act of hate and domestic terrorism. This unfortunate targeting comes amidst a surge in anti-Muslim, anti-Arab, anti-Palestinian and anti-Semitic incidents, and crimes.

This hateful attack brings to the memory the cold-blooded murder of 6-year-old Palestinian-American boy Wadea Al Fayoume and the wounding of his mother in Chicago. The Gaza war is impacting the entire world.

The American Human Rights Council (AHRC-USA) joins all civil rights and human rights organizations in calling for swift investigation to reveal all facts related to this horrific crime and punish the defendant to the maximum extent of the law.

“This genocide is Gaza is impacting the USA in many ways, all negative” said Imad Hamad, AHRC Executive Director. “We call for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza because it is in the interest of peace and saves lives in Gaza, it saves lives worldwide,” added Hamad.
