[Michigan, July 18, 2024]
The American Human Rights Council (AHRC-USA) joins all peace-loving people across the nation in calling for all members of Congress not to attend Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s address to the US Congress scheduled for July 24, 2024.
We are appalled that Mr. Netanyahu is being honored by the US Congress with this privilege when he is a controversial and divisive Israeli figure who is facing criminal charges in Israel and charges internationally before the International Criminal Court. Netanyahu is accused of fraud in Israel and is accused of war crimes in Gaza. These are serious charges.
AHRC salutes the members of Congress who have already made it clear that they will not be in attendance. The government of Netanyahu, the most extreme government in Israeli history, has denied Gaza the most basic of necessities, causing a catastrophe that has appalled the entire world.
The starving of Gazans and the massive destruction in Gaza have led to Israel facing profoundly serious charges in the International Court of Justice and the International Criminal Court.
The US is a country that claims to put human rights and international law at the center of its foreign policy. The Gaza genocide has shown that the Biden administration set aside its commitment to human rights and international law when the perpetrator is Israel. The US has been providing weapons that Israel is using to commit the genocide in addition to the diplomatic cover to have Israel avoid the consequences.
Hosting Netanyahu is not only the cherry on this pie of complete disregard for human rights and international law but also a slap in the face of all Americans who have been advocating for peace and justice in Palestine and across the world.
AHRC calls upon all peace-loving people across the US to contact their Congressional representatives and demand that they boycott Netanyahu’s address and join the national protest in Washington D.C on July 24, 2024.
