[Michigan, February 26, 2004:
The American Human Rights Council (AHRC-USA) calls for active participation in Michigan’s Primary Presidential elections that will be held on Tuesday, February 27, 2024. Voting polls open at 8:00 am and close at 8:00 pm.
This primary election is of high importance as it coincides with the ongoing Gaza genocide. The Biden Administration’s unconditional political, diplomatic, and military support of Israel has allowed it to continue its genocidal campaign in Gaza despite the world’s condemnation.
A large segment of the electorate is planning to vote uncommitted. Many others vowed to vote for any other option but not candidate Biden. Such a growing public position reflects the extreme frustration with the Biden Administration’s abandoning the American moral compass and disregard of all calls for a ceasefire. Worse, the US keeps supplying Israel with the very missiles and rockets that are being dropped on Gaza.
AHRC calls upon all registered voters to seize this important occasion and actively participate in this election tomorrow, February 27. The primary elections this year are crucial. This is a chance to be heard through the voting booth. The administration must realize that there is a price to pay for breaching promises of a foreign policy based on human rights and international law. Not calling for a ceasefire given the magnitude of the devastation and when almost the entire world is calling for one is callous and unconscionable.
AHRC urges voters to cast a smart and an informed vote and not an emotional one. In this spirit, AHRC calls upon every registered voter to exercise his/her civic duty and civic responsibility and vote. Equally so, AHRC calls upon all registered voters not only to vote, but to get others to vote.
“Michigan is one of a handful of states that are critical in presidential elections,” said Imad Hamad. “Politicians are not owed a vote, they have to earn it,” added Hamad.
