The American Human Rights Council (AHRC-USA) joins the human rights community in condemning all forms and shapes of political violence and political targeting and killing.
We continue to urge an immediate ceasefire in Gaza.

Unfortunately, what we see is continued escalation of violence and avoidable deaths and suffering. For the past ten months of the Israeli genocide, Israel has killed 113 Palestinian journalists. The most recent is the killing of Al Jazeera journalist Ismael Al Ghoul and his cameraman Rami Reefi. Israel has also targeted the families of reporters. This is unacceptable. Israel should stop killing media personnel and should be held accountable for these crimes.

The latest targeted killings of Hamas chief Ismail Haniyeh in Iran and Hizballah leader Fouad Shukr in Lebanon is more evidence that Israel is not interested in a ceasefire and continues to push for a wider war that would draw the US in. These assassinations do not bring the region anywhere close to a hostage deal let alone to a lasting peace. It is the politics of vengeance and revenge. Our world is more dangerous as a result. None of this has been inevitable.

We condemn all forms of political violence. We believe that political problems call for political solutions. Violence is not the answer. Decades of violence have not resulted in peace. We urge the US to stop providing Israel with weapons and to force a ceasefire in Gaza. An immediate ceasefire is needed.

The roadmap for peace has been provided by the World Court. Israel must end the occupation and compensate the Palestinians for this occupation. No one should be able to pretend that this is an intractable conflict that should be allowed to continue.

“This violence has to end and the only power that can put an end to it is the United States,” said Imad Hamad, AHRC Executive Director. “The US is the world’s leading power, not Israel, a country led by a most extreme group of fanatics,” added Hamad. “We need to see leadership from the White House, Mr. Biden should not be a meek follower while Netanyahu- Ben Gvir and Smotrich are in the driver’s seat of US Middle East policy,” concluded Hamad.
