The American Human Rights Council (AHRC-USA) is pleased to announce its 2017 “Spirit of Humanity” Gala Awardees. Awards will be presented on Thursday, May 18, 2016 at 6:00PM in Dearborn. This year’s awardees are highly admired organizations and individuals diligently working to advance and protect human rights, and to alleviate human suffering. AHRC-USA is proud to honor these esteemed organizations and individuals dedicated to upholding human rights and social justice.

Spirit of Humanity Award
Proudly Presented to Mads Gilbert, MD, PhD
In recognition of his many years of humanitarian medical work around the world, including in Palestine. Dr. Gilbert’s extensive field work and research in alternative medical educational models and development of “The Village University” concept are timeless contributions to all humanity.

Proudly Presented to Ms. Zainab Zeb Khan, President of MALA
In recognition of her commitment to human rights especially for the rights of women. Ms Khan has spend years working on bettering the life of vulnerable populations from counseling survivors of domestic violence and organizing exhibitions for artists facing repression to speaking and writing extensively about human rights and we are all living in a better world due to her efforts.

Proudly Presented to Dr. Seema Jilani
In recognition of her selfless dedication to vulnerable population by providing direly needed medical assistance in challenging conditions in Palestine, Lebanon, Egypt, Afghanistan, Bosnia, Nepal and Iraq. Countless numbers of fellow human beings are alive and well today because of her dedication to human rights.

Proudly Presented to Mr. Abdallah Sheik, Captain Jay’s Restaurants Enterprise
In recognition of his years of success as an entrepreneur, philanthropist and community leader. An immigrant who started a successful business, with his generosity and volunteerism, Mr. Sheik is a role model for future generations for his business success, community involvement and leadership.
