[Michigan, October 9, 2023]:
The American Human Rights Council (AHRC-USA) joins peace loving people across the world calling for an immediate end to the war between Palestinians and Israel that escalated dramatically, causing a huge toll of loss of lives and a huge toll of destruction.
The root of this conflict is the continued Israeli occupation of Palestinian land including Gaza and the West Bank for the last 75 years. This crisis was not born last week. It is decades of Palestinian ongoing catastrophe and continued Israeli military oppression, aggression, and ongoing assault against the Al Aqsa Mosque Sanctuary.
The Gaza strip is a 140-square-mile geographic area with 2.2 million Palestinians. It is an area of high population density of 5,500 people per square kilometer. Gaza has been under a brutal siege since 2007. Israel is denying Gaza electricity, food, and fuel. This is an attempt at genocide.
Israel has unleashed a brutal war machine on Palestinian civilian targets. Gaza does not have fighter jets and tanks, no military installations, or airports. Israel is bombing civilian targets.
For decades, Palestinians suffered ongoing Israeli blatant violations of human rights and Israeli defiance of international law and a long trail of United Nations resolutions. Thousands of Palestinians including women and children are being held in Israeli prisons, many without charges. The ongoing home demolitions of Palestinian homes and properties is a daily Israeli violence.
The Palestinian, Arab, and Israeli conflict is not measured by the recent astounding attack from Gaza. It’s a product of long years of suffering and long years of brutal occupation.
Killing and targeting civilians is not accepted. Civilians must be spared from military confrontations and actions. Human life is a human life that is precious equally to all. The Israeli war on Gaza is a war on Gaza’s civilians.
AHRC calls upon the Biden Administration to seize the occasion and help end this most bloody conflict. The long years of Israeli occupation and military action have failed to suppress Palestinians from their unwavering right for their basic human rights. The so-called Abrahamic Accords and Israel’s nuclear arsenal have not brought peace to Israel.
AHRC calls upon the United Nations to act before the range of escalation widens and before the world witnesses another humanitarian crisis and war crimes.
AHRC calls upon all peace-loving people in Michigan to join a community rally in solidarity with the Palestinian people that will be held Tuesday, October 10, 2023, 6:00 p.m. at Ford Community and Performing Arts Center in Dearborn.
“It is important not to look at the unfolding events in Gaza without the proper context and history,” said Imad Hamad, AHRC Executive Director. “While Palestinian violence is sporadic, Israeli violence is ongoing and the worst Israeli aggression is the ongoing occupation,” added Hamad. “We know the solution to the conflict because international law and UN resolutions provide it,” continued Hamad. “There is no peace because of lack of political will, from the United States specifically,” concluded Hamad.
