The American Human Rights Council (AHRC-USA) joins peace-loving people across the United States and around the world in welcoming the declared ceasefire in Gaza. This long-overdue development offers a glimmer of hope for ending a war that has devastated the region for the past two years.
Despite the announcement, reports indicate that Israeli bombardment has not fully ceased. AHRC urges President Donald Trump, who played a key role as guarantor of the agreement, to use his influence to ensure the ceasefire is upheld and that Prime Minister Netanyahu does not undermine or violate its terms. Past experience has shown that Netanyahu is an unreliable partner in peace efforts.
AHRC expresses its deep appreciation to President Trump and all negotiating and mediation teams whose tireless efforts helped bring about this critical agreement. The ceasefire marks a potential turning point in what has been an ongoing human catastrophe. Every moment of peace saves innocent lives, especially among the most vulnerable.
According to United Nations reports, over 70,000 Palestinians have been killed and more than 100,000 injured, including 55,000 children under the age of five, many of whom suffer from acute malnutrition. Thousands of civilians in Gaza now live with permanent disabilities, forming a community of survivors deeply scared by the conflict.
AHRC remains cautiously optimistic that this ceasefire will hold and lead to a genuine and lasting peace. The root of this decades-long conflict lies in the Zionist enterprise in Palestine that does not see Palestinians as equally human. It is time to replace the language of war with the language of coexistence, justice, and reconciliation.
