[Michigan, December 17, 2025]
The American Human Rights Council (AHRC-USA) participated in a community leadership meeting and introductory discussion with the newly appointed FBI Special Agent in Charge of the Detroit Field Office Jennifer Runyan. The meeting, held on December 12, 2025, was facilitated, organized, and hosted by Chief Issa Shahin of the Dearborn Police Department.
The purpose of this meeting was to introduce the FBI’s new Special Agent in Charge to community stakeholders and to engage in dialogue regarding the current climate of heightened concern within the Arab and Muslim communities.
Community leaders had the opportunity to meet the FBI leadership and engage in candid, professional, and constructive discussions. Participants shared concerns of Dearborn’s broader community, including the American Muslim community, amidst ongoing hateful campaigns and ethnic intimidation, demonization, targeting the city and its residents. All attendees affirmed that these threats are real and require joint, collaborative efforts to confront.
AHRC commends Chief Shahin and the Dearborn Police Department team for their initiative during this sensitive time of heightened fear and anxiety. AHRC also extends its gratitude to the FBI Special Agent in Charge and the FBI team for their professionalism and their commitment to dialogue, engagement, and ensuring the safety of all Dearborn residents.
Participants expressed a strong interest in sustaining and continuing constructive dialogue with the FBI and other federal agencies, including the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Michigan.
“We believe in dialogue and engagement between community stakeholders and all levels of government,” said Imad Hamad, AHRC Executive Director. “Government and community stakeholders work for the same goal, public safety of all American communities,” added Hamad. “It is important to have face-to-face meetings, communicate, and most importantly, to listen,” concluded Hamad.
