The American Human Rights Council (AHRC-USA) welcomes the Trump-announced ceasefire between Israel and Iran. The announcement comes after 12 days of heavy bombardment on both sides. This ceasefire helps prevent potentially far-reaching regional consequences.
Israel initiated this war. Israel is the aggressor, and the U.S. aided the Israeli attack. The U.S. and Israel violated international law. The American direct involvement threatens to entangle the U.S. more deeply in Middle Eastern conflicts and undermines the nation’s longstanding role as a mediator.
AHRC reaffirms that war and violence are political choices—not givens or premises. The human toll is already tragic, and further losses are preventable. The United States should promote diplomacy and conflict resolution, not directly join the fray or become a combatant in Israel’s open-ended, aimless wars.
President Trump should resist the pressure from the Israeli lobby. America’s and Americans’ interests should come first. Netanyahu should not be driving U.S. foreign policy in the Middle East. Mr. Trump should defy the Israel lobby.
AHRC urges President Trump to continue his efforts for a sustained ceasefire with Iran, end the genocide in Gaza, and compel Israel to respect the ceasefire with Lebanon. It is time for President Trump to uphold his electoral promise of being a “No War” President. The U.S. can and should be working for de-escalation and peace.
The turmoil and violence in the Middle East are not inevitable. They are a direct result of Netanyahu’s choices. The world is waiting for President Trump to fulfill his campaign promises. The door to the Nobel Peace Prize is not permanently closed.
