AHRC Calls for Leadership to End the War and Protect Civilian Lives
The American Human Rights Council (AHRC USA) cautiously welcomes the pause and temporary ceasefire between the United States and Iran, which reportedly includes Israel and Lebanon.
This last minute “stay of execution,” reached during one of the tensest moments the global community has witnessed in years, has—despite its fragility—spared the world from the brink of another catastrophic conflict. The potential destruction of entire populations, regardless of political grievances, is unconscionable and violates the most basic principles of human dignity.
The fragile agreement to halt military action and pursue negotiations offers a glimpse of hope for ending the ongoing war affecting Iran and Lebanon, a conflict that has shaken the stability of the entire Middle East.
The recent Israeli massacres in Lebanon and the war crimes committed including large scale bombardments that have struck civilian areas, residential neighborhoods, businesses, schools, places of worship, cafés, journalists, rescue aid workers and health service facilities, resulting in hundreds of casualties and massive destruction represent a desperate attempt to undermine the ceasefire.
AHRC asserts that these actions constitute Israeli crimes against humanity that violate international law, the rules of armed conflict, and the terms of the ceasefire reached between President Trump and Iran. This escalation appears intended to draw the United States deeper into the conflict in pursuit of Israel’s own strategic objectives in the region.
AHRC calls on President Trump to ensure that Israel complies with the ceasefire terms and immediately ends its military operations in Lebanon.
AHRC further urges the U.S. Congress to demonstrate leadership by acting swiftly to end the war, exercise oversight, and prevent any continuation or expansion of the conflict.
AHRC also calls on the United Nations to seize this moment to advance genuine peace negotiations, with the goal of ending the violence and preventing further loss of life and destruction.
Enough war. Enough killing. All people deserve genuine peace and stability.
