[Michigan, January 26, 2026]

The American Human Rights Council (AHRC-USA) joins the family, loved ones, friends, colleagues, and all peace‑loving people in Minneapolis, Minnesota and across the nation in demanding an immediate, independent, and transparent investigation into the tragic killing of Alex Pretti, a 37‑year‑old intensive care unit nurse known for his dedication to helping others. Mr. Pretti was shot and killed on Saturday, January 25, 2026.

According to multiple reports, Mr. Pretti’s family disputes the Department of Homeland Security’s account of the incident. Additional media coverage indicates that video recordings of the shooting by federal agents contradict the official narrative. Several sources report that Mr. Pretti was holding his phone—not a firearm—at the time he was shot.

Mr. Pretti’s killing marks the second fatal shooting by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents this month, occurring while the community was still grieving the January 7, 2026, killing of Ms. Good, a mother of three.

The use of live ammunition against peaceful protesters and the escalating pattern of excessive force is deeply alarming and dangerous. Such actions widen social divides, heighten tensions, and risk provoking further violence. Use of force against protesters must never become normalized or justified, particularly by federal agencies such as ICE.

The tragic, unnecessary, and avoidable deaths of Mr. Pretti and Ms. Good are painful reminders that violence and excessive force are not solutions. The growing public anger toward ICE in Minnesota and across the nation is serious and demands urgent assessment and review by the Trump Administration, the Department of Homeland Security, and the U.S. Congress.

This crisis requires immediate, responsible action. It is both a public health and public safety issue and addressing it is a collective responsibility—not a matter for political point‑scoring. The safety and well‑being of the public must remain paramount.

The ongoing escalation of conflict and confrontations in Minnesota and other cities must come to an end. Lives should never be held hostage to political agendas. Broad generalizations and sweeping condemnations only fuel further hostility and risk additional loss of life.

AHRC warns that continued ICE confrontations, raids, and clashes with the public will have profound consequences at every level. AHRC calls for calm and urges DHS and the Trump administration to refrain from any further actions that could intensify the unrest.

Communities and law enforcement personnel are part of the same society, and both are caught in the crossfire of political agendas. As a nation, we must do better.
We call for transparency, accountability, and constructive dialogue and not fear. Law enforcement should be guided by American democratic values and traditions.

“Pointing fingers is not going to solve the chronic problem; reconsideration of immigration policy and tactics to prevent these avoidable tragedies is the solution,” said Imad Hamad, AHRC Executive Director.
