AHRC Urges Smart Voting and Active Participation on Tuesday, November 4
The American Human Rights Council (AHRC-USA) calls on all eligible and registered voters to vote in the general elections on Tuesday, November 4, across Michigan and the nation.
Voting is more accessible than ever, with early voting options available in many states. Election Day is the time to stand up, be counted, and shape the future of our communities. As Ralph Nader once said, in a democracy “the highest office is the office of citizen.” Former U.S. Supreme Court Justice Felix Frankfurter said: “In a democracy, the highest office is the office of citizen”.
This year’s elections feature several closely watched races, including those in Detroit, Dearborn Heights, and Hamtramck. The Dearborn mayoral and city council contests, like the New York City mayoral race. have drawn national and international attention, reflecting the high stakes and deep community engagement.
These races are not just about candidates—they are about the values and priorities we want to see reflected in our local leadership.
AHRC urges all voters to approach the ballot box with integrity, responsibility, and respect. We call on political campaigns and supporters to maintain civility and honor the democratic process. The outcome of these elections must be accepted with grace, regardless of who wins or loses.
Local elections matter. They influence the schools our children attend, the safety of our neighborhoods, the condition of our roads, and the services we rely on every day. This is your opportunity to vote your conscience, express your beliefs, and help shape the future you want to see. Every vote matter, especially in local elections. The outcome of many local elections has historically turned on small margins. And given how important local elections are, local elections can be called the elections with small margins but big consequences.
AHRC encourages everyone not only to vote, but to help others do the same—offer a ride, share information, and remind friends and family. Democracy thrives when we all participate.
Polls open at 7:00 a.m. and close at 8:00 p.m. Let us make this Election Day a powerful expression of unity, purpose, and civic pride.
“Every vote matter, especially in local elections,” said Imad Hamad, AHRC Executive director. “The outcome of many local elections has historically been determined by small margins,” added Hamad. “Given how important local elections are for our daily life, local elections can be called the elections with small margins but big consequences,” concluded Hamad.
