AHRC heartened by the success of its “Spirit of Humanity” Awards & Dinner Gala:
The American Human Rights Council (AHRC-USA) expresses its profound gratitude and appreciation to all those who made its 2017 “Spirit of Humanity” Awards and Dinner Gala a great success. On Thursday, May 18, 2017 in Dearborn, Michigan, over 900 friends and supporters gathered to celebrate humanity and human rights in America and across the globe. It was an empowering celebration that reflected the unwavering commitment to serving humanity at home and abroad.
Mr. Roop Raj, My Fox TV News Anchor, emceed the evening sharing his rich experience achieving the American dream. Artist and Singer, Ms. Yasmine Suri sang the national anthem. Both Ms. Brenda Jones, President of Detroit City Council and Commander Robinson of Dearborn Police Department welcomed the Gala’s guests with warm greetings and inspirational remarks attesting to the rich American diversity that we pride ourselves with. Both stressed on the importance of AHRC’s work on behalf of human rights. Wayne County Sheriff Benny Napoleon delivered special remarks affirming the law enforcement family diligent work to serve people and ensure the safety of all people equally. The Wayne County Sheriff’s Department presented Mr. Imad Hamad, AHRC’s Executive Director and AHRC with a Certificate of Recognition honoring AHRC’s important work on behalf of human rights in Michigan.
The Gala’s guest of honor, the Honorable Chief Judge of the US District Court of the Eastern District, Judge Denise Page-Hood delivered a special message on the importance of judges and our judicial system in protecting the rights of everyone.
The AHRC presented its annual “Spirit of Humanity” Award- Agent of Change to four very distinguished individuals who were recognized for their extraordinary work serving humanity in different roles and in different capacities. The diverse makeup of the AHRC awardees attests to the AHRC active engagement on the national and international levels on behalf of the cause of human rights. The awardees this year were Dr. Mads Gilbert, Ms Zainab Zeb Khan, Dr. Seema Jilani and Mr. Abdullah Sheik. In addition to their recognition by AHRC, the awardees received multiple awards from government officials including certificates from Congresswoman Debbie Dingell, Congresswoman Brenda Lawrence, Mayor Jack O’Reilly, and Congressman John Conyers. AHRC special video messages:
A special greeting message was aired to the Gala’s audience from Congressman Brenda Lawrence who saluted the AHRC work on behalf of human rights in America. Congresswoman Lawrence presented the AHRC with a special Proclamation recognizing AHRC work and its awardees this year.
Another special message of hope regarding the plight of helpless refuges was aired from Mr. Christopher and Mrs. Regina Cartrambone of the MOAS – Migrant Offshore Aid Station. AHRC Receives
A formal Congressional record: The American Human Rights Council (AHRC-USA) expressed is heartfelt appreciation to Congresswoman Debbie Dingell for the congressional record that was presented to AHRC to recognizing AHRC’s work on behalf of human rights in America and abroad. The congressional record is the first formal congressional record presented to AHRC. AHRC takes this congressional record as a badge of honor. Congresswoman Dingell also presented the four awardees with a special congressional recognition as well. AHRC receives the Great Seal of the State of Michigan. The American Human Rights Council (AHRC-USA) expresses its sincere gratitude and appreciation to State Senator Steve Bieda, Minority Whip of the State of Michigan House of Representatives, and other Michigan state representatives who presented Mr. Imad Hamad, AHRC Executive Director and AHRC with the Great Seal of the State of Michigan in recognition of Mr. Hamad and AHRC’s work serving humanity.
AHRC Receives several proclamations: AHRC extends its appreciation to Mayor Karen Majewski of Hamtramck, Mayor Dan Paletko of Dearborn Heights, Mayor Bill Wild of Westland, and Mayor John O’Reilly of Dearborn who presented the awardees and AHRC with special citations and proclamations saluting their good work on behalf of humanity.
“Our banquet was a great celebration, a great evening,” stated Imad Hamad, AHRC Executive Event. “Every year we see a bigger appreciation of the work we do. We thank all those who joined us in celebrating our awardees and the cause of human rights,” concluded Hamad.

Invocation & prayer of Peace: Both Imam Mustapha Elturk of IONA, City of Warren and AHRC Executive Board member and Rev. Rani Abdelmaseeh of the Mother of the Savior Church delivered the invocation and led a prayer for peace.
